Greg Elsner

AIA, NCARB, LFA

With a background that marries his construction expertise and his eye for design, Greg brings a unique perspective to Shelter that helps the team deliver innovative, practical, and well-detailed work. Greg believes that the best designs live where craft intersects a mastery of material. Throughout his practice, Greg has remained dedicated to the concept that making is learning. Being equally comfortable with a hammer as a drafting pen has greatly sharpened his understanding of the entire design and construction process. This has led to his approach to sustainability, thoughtfully balancing site, materials, and craftsmanship to nurture the human experience of a space.

Greg joined Shelter in 2016 – and currently leads both residential and commercial projects as Shelter Architecture’s Director of Design – but the breadth and impact of his work extends well beyond the studio. Greg is involved with multiple ongoing education, healthcare, and water projects in central Kenya. He’s also in the process of restoring and renovating his historic home in Taylors Falls, MN.
