Jackie Millea

AIA, ASID, NCARB, NCIDQ, LFA

Jackie is a founding partner and president of Shelter Architecture. After 15+ years of interior design practice, Jackie earned her Master of Architecture from the University of Minnesota to grow in her influence as a designer. Her superpower is her empathetic understanding of how people live and interact in their spaces. Her acute sensitivity to how spaces affect people is rooted in the huge role her father played in her life. When he was confined to a wheelchair for over 20 years as a result of a stroke, Jackie helped her dad navigate a world full of barriers. This charged her already heightened empathy for the effect our designs have on others.

Throughout her career, Jackie had pursued a greater understanding of how design can better our wellness and our overall health, relationships, and communities. Jackie’s leadership and tenacious focus on the impact that our designs can have on people’s lives is one of Shelter’s most pronounced differentiators. In 2016, Jackie founded Millea Living, an assistive furnishings company that designs and manufactures home products that offer comfort and assistance paired with elevated design. Jackie is known for visionary team leadership, empathy, attentive listening skills, diplomacy, space planning abilities, and keeping an eye on the accessibility of a design.
